My Creativity Work Log

Over the past few days, I have been browsing all of the sites I could find that have any type of inspirational art. You can find some of these sites on the right under ” Shiz Im Diggin’ “.

Well all of that art, and inspiration has made me want to create something, and that something is you ask. It is a 8.5×11 party flier for a fictitious party “Saints and Sinners”, not too creative i know, but hey, this is for fun dammit! Over the next couple of _____s (fill in the blank, I have no idea how long this may take) I will be posting the progress of my flier along various time frames in its creation. Please feel free to leave criticisms and feedback.

On with the show!!

So, after scouring the internet and Stock Exchange for some decent images to start with, I have found 1 ( Click here to view original photo ) though while re-finding said photo (for linking and credit), I have stumbled across a few other good ones.

Taking that photo, I used a mixture of Photoshop and Illustrator to create the pieces below.

Javascript Pre-valued text boxes

In a recent thread on a message board I frequent, a member was looking for a solution to the . They were asking for a text box that when the page is loaded is valued at “User Name” then, when clicked is erased so the user can continue typing. If the user DOES NOT type anything and moves on, then the text box is reset to “User Name”. If the user DOES type something, when the text box looses focus, leave the value they typed. And one last requirement, if the user did type something, clicked out of the text box then clicked in it again, it could not erase what they had typed earlier.

My solution was rather simple and straight to the point. Here I will walk you through what it does.

One of the coolest Firefox add-ons!

So I was sitting at work today wondering how CSS galleries and such get those awesome full page length screen shots (example: right). A few minutes and a solid Google search later I found the coolest Firefox add-on ever! Screengrab. It has many options, can save the screen shot as a jpg or png, take a shot of the viewable area, frame, entire page, and can capture flash (with the older java software). If you ask me, thats pretty damn handy! AND its free, so that means you can’t go wrong! You can add full page previews to your portfolio, etc etc.

Thats all I got for now, and heres the link -> HERE

Smashing Magazine is having a GIVE away

Thats right, there is no contest to enter, no purchasing of a raffle ticket, nothing at all really. Just tell them what you think when you hear “Smashing Magazine” and list the ‘prize’ you wish to receive.

I love when websites have things like this. You know they get all that cool stuff to play with and review and now they are sharing the wealth! They are turning 1 year old, and honestly its the best birthday (thats not mine) ever. THEY are GIVING US gifts… AWESOME!

In case you have been living under a rock for the last year, Smashing Magazine is an amazing website focusing on all things web design. They scour the internet looking and compiling the best list of resources. Not only do they do that, but they also put everything in a VERY easy to read article and then let you comment, post more resources etc on the page (thank you WordPress). They have saved me so much time by collecting all that information in one place for all developers, designers, etc to access. They offer links to free fonts, free (amazing) wordpress layouts, tutorials, gre…. just go look.

Switched to Wordpress!

On the last few versions of the site I had been using this news script called PHP News and its a nice little simple PHP news/blogging software. The reason I was using it was because I wanted to create my own PHP News script, but found it on my travels. Being open source I had to try it, being pretty simple and straight forward, its difficult to get lost in it, but felt too light and fluffy to be what I wanted. Thats when I set out modifying it, adding multi-depth categories, simpler image uploading (it required a file my server did not have), pagination of post, and a few more odds and ends here and there. Long story short, I did/do not have the time to continue messing with it.
